December is here, and if you’re anything like me, your to-do list is longer than a deployment! Between family gatherings, finalizing year-end goals, and the nonprofit world’s seasonal frenzy, it’s a lot. You might be wrapping up your final fundraiser of the year—a gala or other giving campaign—while your programs team is busy providing services in the lead-up to the holidays. On top of that, they’re likely offering extra support to veterans and their families who need it most right now while trying to close out the end-of-year reports and hitting those ever-elusive KPIs (Key Performance Indicators). Oouuff—just typing that takes me back to my days in the programs team.
Let’s be honest—burnout is real in the nonprofit world. Working 12-hour days, balancing the passion for helping others while trying to keep things running smoothly, and often sacrificing personal time—it’s no wonder burnout rates are so high. If you’re feeling the pressure, remember: You’re not alone.
Maybe some of you are flying through December with ease. But if you’re not, let’s stop and make sure this year doesn’t end with you running on fumes.
Do me a favor—open your calendar and mark a day in January. Yes, go ahead, I’ll wait. Pick a time to sit down and reflect on how December went for you and your team. Was everything a rush? Did your team feel supported? Were there processes that could have been more efficient?
Leadership teams should reflect, too. Is there a better way to handle KPI reporting so the pressure isn’t all at the end of the year? Are there ways to support your frontline staff better so they’re not stretched thin?
At VetREC, we’re all about making your next year easier and more manageable. Whether it’s helping you write KPIs or program evaluations that capture meaningful data throughout the year, we’ve got you covered. Heading into next December, we want you to have a treasure trove of great data that tells the story of the incredible work you’re doing.
We see you, the one burning the candle at both ends, because you have passion in your belly and a mission in your heart. We know getting caught up in the day-to-day is easy, especially when the people you serve depend on you. But let us help you make things a little smoother next year. Data collection can be your friend, helping you create a strong narrative to show others the amazing work you’re already doing. Let’s work together to build systems that not only capture your success but also keep your team healthy and supported.
Here’s to reflecting on the hard work and planning for a sustainable, impactful future. Let VetREC help you build that bridge from burnout to balance. Let’s make 2025 the year you shine with even greater impact!
Warmly,
